Attend a Peer Grief Support Group
From the Support Group Statement of Purpose
We offer peer grief support groups for people in recovery who have experienced the death of someone they care about from any drug-alcohol-related cause. You are welcome to attend no matter what your relationship to the person is or how substances took their life. We consider people in recovery simply to be folks looking to change their relationship with alcohol and other drugs. All recovery paths are welcomed and honored in our groups. Our only purpose is to help each other cope with our grief.

Why Grief Support Groups Can Be Helpful
Peer grief support groups are safe spaces where people are able to talk openly about their personal grief journeys. They understand and sympathize with each other's struggles. No one judges anyone.
When one person shares about a difficulty, others are able to talk about what is happening to them. Each person can choose what they talk about, and it is OK to just listen and be present.
What Happens in a Grief Support Group?
Peer grief support groups begin by briefly honoring those who have died. Then the facilitator reads the Statement of Purpose (see above) and a few basic sharing guidelines.
The bulk of the meeting is set aside for open sharing, then a closing statement is read, which concludes: Until we meet again, may you carry this experience—and all of us—with you as a reminder that you are not alone.
